Milwaukee Lake & Stream Fly Fishers

FLY FISHING is a sport with infinite possibilities. It is practiced around the globe in pursuit of almost every species of game fish. It combines rich traditions with modern technology and sound conservation practices. Fly fishing can be as simple or as elaborate as one likes.

Milwaukee Lake and Stream Fly Fishers, Inc. are men and women with all levels of fly fishing skills and experience. They enjoy fly fishing for everything from bluegills to bonefish in environments from small ponds and streams to the oceans. What they have in common is a commitment to sportsmanship and conservation, and the personal enjoyment which comes from the sport of fly fishing.

Benefits of Membership

Membership in the Milwaukee Lake and Stream Fly Fishers has many benefits, but  none is greater than the opportunity to form friendships, swapping flies and learning from others who share our interests.

Some of the other benefits of membership are:

•General Meetings -  our meetings are usually held the second Tuesday of the month, September thru April. A short business meeting is followed by a presentation or program related to some aspect of fly fishing. There is time for fishing reports, catching up on club activities and meeting new members.  Visitors are welcome. Club officers and Board members are elected at our annual meeting in November.

•Newsletter Monthly-  “ The Hatch”, is published every month. It informs members of upcoming activities, contains articles of interest, the fly of the month, and reports from the Club officers and other fly fishing experts.

•Educational Programs -  The Club has many excellent fly tyers and casters who are willing to answer beginner’s questions.  We have informal fly tying sessions and casting clinics. In addition, a variety of classes are run throughout the year such as introduction to fly fishing, introduction to salmon and steelhead fishing, and rod building.

•Fishing Outings -  Within a few hours of Milwaukee are excellent fly fishing opportunities for trout, bass, salmon and steelhead, pike, musky, and panfish. The club has outings throughout the fishing season (May thru August) to various waters. A beginning fly fisher will be guided on the appropriate equipment to bring and assistance on the water from more experienced members. Occasionally, weekend trips are planned to more distant destinations.

Other Activities

Milwaukee Lake and Stream Fly Fishers participate in projects to improve fish

habitat and expand fishing opportunities in Southeastern Wisconsin, and to educate the public about fly fishing. We do community outreach withvarious youth organizations by providing instruction and sponsoring young people for  fishing camps. Yearly contributions are given to various conservation organizations for stream improvement projects.  Members are kept informed of upcoming conservation events and projects through “The Hatch” and emails.
