Lake Columbia

Lake Columbia is open all year long due to warm water produced by the power plant to its north. This produces a spooky vapor on the water during the winter months. There is a carry-in launch fir a canoe or small boat, or bring your float tube, or you can wade the shoreline. The steep bank makes it hard to flycast from shore.

According to the DNR, the average lake in Wisconsin has 25 bass per acre. Lake Columbia has 88. Expect to catch bass, bluegills and striped bass here. The lake has a large population of gizzard shad, so minnow type flies are especially effective. The lake is only 8 ft deep so surface lures such as hard bodied poppers work well and will even take catfish.

Take Highway 51 north from I90/94.
