: This time of year you might have some success on midge patterns, too. My favorite is a midge "blood worm" pattern -- a red larva imitation-- in size 20 or smaller.

: Did you have any success on Saturday?

: : anyone going to venture out on Saturday and if so what patterns will you be throwing?

: : I have a small brook trout stream near the house I will be walking and stalking. Probably using scuds, pheasant tails and maybe a trico. Keeping things small in the 18 range.

it was another good day, by my standards anyway. caught 8 brookies most between 8 and 9" Saturday afternoon in about 3 hours. mostly on a goose wing caddis - similar to the pheasant tail only using Canada goose wing for the body, counter wrapped with black crystal flash and a gold bead head, black hackle behind the bead. I figured if pheasant tail works why not goose, plus I had some left over wing feathers from last fall. the crusty snow cover made walking difficult and definitly noisy, might have done better Sunday but other duties called. Didn't think of trying the midge, next time.
