Re Which Spinning Taper - Robert Holder

Kyle,

Here is an UL spinner rod taper that I have built for my father. This rod
came about as an accident. The tip of the rod is from a fly rod I was
building but it broke while I was mounting the ferrule but most of it was
still good so I put it aside for something else. Just didn't want to throw
it away. I built the butt section to match the tip to come up with this
sweet little UL spinner rod. I named it after one of the fishing ponds that
I like to go and visit from time to time. This rod has a great punch to it
and really sends out the line. My father really loves the feel and action
of the rod.

Subject: Which Spinning Taper?

Listers,

I saw some of the spinning rod tapers floating around here the last few
weeks. My 7 year old son is a dedicated spin fisherman right now. I made
him a PHY midge rod, but he tells me why bother with flies when he can catch
trout on spinners, although he thinks wading is cool. :) He wants me to
make him a bamboo spinning rod, and I was wondering what taper would be
appropriate. His secret and favored spinner is a 1/8 ounce Mepps with a
gold blade, black body, and yellow spots - and I must admit he can outfish
me on many days with that lure! He likes smaller rods, 5.5ft to 6ft,
designed for a 4 pound test. Any suggestions on spinning rod tapers for
these specs for lure/line wt and length listed above would be most
appreciated (quad or hex).

Thanks,

Kyle
